Paper Houses Design is a textile and homeware design business with a focus on sustainability. It specialises in creating bold and stylish patterns on every day, sustainable products that are made to last.
As a result of lockdown and the covid-19 global pandemic, owner Mhairi Allan launched a series of online workshops to encourage others to develop their creative skills and reap the benefits of learning a craft.
Through support from Business Gateway Aberdeen City & shire, Mhairi received advice on her business plan, company regulations, funding, premises and marketing. In addition, Mhairi accessed DigitalBoost services and had a Health Check to see where her online presence could be improved.
This support led to Paper Houses Design being awarded funding from Creative Scotland which helped Mhairi to develop the virtual workshops.
Speaking favourably of her experience, business owner Mhairi Allan said: “Business Gateway has pushed me out of my comfort zone and the team has been a pillar of support during a turbulent time.
“Sometimes when you work for yourself, you really need some people around you to tell you like it is, and Business Gateway has been that for me. The team signposted me to various resources and funding opportunities and really ensured I made it through the challenges of the past year.”
Since benefiting from the support, Mhairi has teamed up with Dundee Contemporary Arts to offer craft workshops and more recently, will be joining a collection of upcoming new businesses in the Box Park in Chapelton, Aberdeenshire.
Mhairi Allan went on to open Paper Houses Design: Textiles Studio where she will offers creative workshops, print table and equipment hire and a retail space for her textile designs.
