Culdees Castle Estate is located in the beautiful Perthshire countryside, near the town of Crieff at the edge of the Highlands.
New custodians Tracey and Robbie took over the site in July 2019 and are now in the process of completing a full renovation of the historic castle, which had lain in a state of disrepair for over 50 years.
The first phase of their plan was completed in 2020 – luxury glamping facilities in the grounds, with an on-site store and tearoom. The glamping site offers real luxury, with stunning cabins, hot tubs, BBQ areas and fire pits. It’s unique setting means wild deer roam free, and the cabins have direct views of historic Culdees Castle. The castle is back lit at night adding to the breath-taking views across the estate and into the Highlands beyond.
Launching the glamping business in 2020 meant Tracey had the challenges of government restrictions to contend with, but support from Business Gateway Tayside meant she was able to access funding, attend online finance and training webinars and receive one-to-one support from her dedicated adviser, Colin.
Tracey commented: “Colin supported us through completion of our business plan, particularly with the financials. This enabled us to gain funding which allowed us to launch the glamping business and secure bookings into the next two years.”
The next stage of Tracey and Robbie’s plans involve turning a courtyard into a wine bar and opening the estate up for local events, weddings and private hire.
