The Inspiring Enterprise Conference and Master Class Workshops
part of Perth and Kinross Business Month
It’s time to set the stage, flick on the lights and get our fantastic speakers psyched, because on the 11th of November, the Inspiring Enterprise Conference will open its doors to inspire aspiring and existing entrepreneurs.
Calling all established and budding entrepreneurs in Tayside! You can book your free place on this event HERE.
May we present to you… a morning brimming with inspirational speakers who have each made their mark in business and are recognised leaders in their fields.
Speaker: Sir Brian Souter, the founder of one of the World’s largest transport businesses, Stagecoach;
Speaker: Gary McEwan, Chief Executive of Enterprise North East Trust, a former Queens Award recipient and UK Entrepreneur of the Year.
Gary McEwan, Chief Executive of Enterprise North East Trust said about the upcoming conference,:
“I am delighted to have been asked to speak during Perth and Kinross Business & Enterprise Month events. Working throughout Scotland I remain resolute in my opinion that Perth & Kinross is amongst the most entrepreneurial places in the country. Nestling in the centre of Scotland, Perth and the surrounding areas are packed with ambitious and entrepreneurial people. Perth Business & Enterprise Month is the ideal opportunity to ignite the people and the place to realise its full potential. I hope to share some thoughts on what it takes to be an entrepreneur and how to avoid the most common mistakes made, including the most up to date teachings from The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Babson College.”
Speaker: Professor Nick Kuenssberg OBE is an International Businessman, Business Angel and Chairman of Social Investment Scotland. He said about the conference: "I am honoured to be part of the Perth & Kinross Inspiring Enterprise week.
Although living and active in business in Glasgow, I am also involved with private enterprise in Tayport and the third sector in Pitlochry.
I look forward to discussing start-ups in both private and social enterprise and the benefits of employee ownership, demonstrating that the relevant skills and principles are not as different as many think."
The speakers will share their experiences of what it takes to be a success in business today.
Host for the event is entrepreneur Gavin Oattes
A sell-out success in the UK comedy circuit, Gavin put his comedic career on hold in order to found the Tree of Knowledge. Tree of Knowledge is a motivational training company which provides team building courses, educational resources and training courses for business owners, students and young people alike. In 2012 Gavin became Scotland’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
Masterclass Workshops to further develop your business skills will take place in the afternoon
In addition to the Inspiring Enterprise Conference, attendees can book onto any of the four afternoon workshops which explore several of the attributes and skills needed to drive your idea or your business forward.
Therefore, as well as inspiring enterprise through the speakers’ individual stories, the conference will also help you improve and develop your own business skills.
- Masterclass A: Great Ideas don’t always make great businesses
1300-1400hrs
Perth Concert Hall, Breakout Room 1
Run by: Gary McEwan, Entrepreneur
Great ideas don't always make great businesses. That's not to say that the problem is always with the idea but rather the process of turning it from concept into reality. This workshop challenges some of the perceptions of the pre-start planning phase including the development of a Business Plan and illustrates what activities merit focus and time spent on them in order to translate the business from an idea into long term success
- Masterclass B The Leadership Challenge
1300-1400hrs
Perth Concert Hall, Breakout Room 2
Run by: Gavin Oattes, Entrepreneur
One of the key factors involved in growing a successful business is the people. Moving a workforce forward to a shared vision requires people who are properly engaged, communicate well and who understand both their own and each other’s strengths. This workshop will look at the dynamics of a team and provide an insight into how a business owner can get the most from the people around them.
- Masterclass C The Science of Selling
1400-1500hrs
Perth Concert Hall Breakout Room 1
Run by: Gavin Oattes, Entrepreneur
“Whether you are experienced in sales or new to it this workshop promises to challenge the way that you think and approach selling to other people. It will introduce real skills and strategies that you can apply immediately all delivered through a variety of interactive exercises”.
- Masterclass D Starting and Growing a Business in Perth: A Local Entrepreneurs Story
1400-1500hrs
Perth Concert Hall, Breakout Room 2
Run by: John Gillespie, Kirsty McWilliam, Fraser Potter and Ross Brown, Entrepreneurs
You''ll have heard from a number of inspiring entrepreneurs already during the course of the day but what is it really like to start up and grow a business within Perth? Hear about the experiences of 4 local entrepreneurs, who went to plan, what unexpected challenges emerged and importantly what knowledge have they learned that they can pass on?
