We spoke with Betty Whyte, owner of B W Bookkeeping, a tenant in our Aboyne Business Centre. Find out what she believes are the benefits to being an Elevator tenant.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your business?
I am Betty Whyte and I am the owner of B W Bookkeeping. I worked for an accountancy firm based in Aboyne Business Centre for 18 years before I was unfortunately made redundant in 2014. I then decided to embark on my own business journey at 60 years old – which was quite daunting may I add – but I thought why not give it a go!
I received a lot of help and support from Karen Pugh, Property Director at Elevator, who allowed me to rent an office in the Aboyne Business Centre at a reasonable rate. I am now into my 6th year of business and it has been a great success so far.
What benefits does operating from Aboyne Business Centre bring to your business?
The other tenants at Aboyne Business Centre run small businesses like myself, therefore it is nice to be part of a like-minded, friendly business community. Everyone is very approachable, so you never feel isolated or alone.
As the Centre is managed by Elevator, I receive shared use of the joint facilities and Karen Pugh has given me beneficial advice around heating, rates and other important factors.
We understand that everyone is facing a challenging and uncertain time due to the impact of COVID-19. How has Elevator been able to provide support during these unprecedented times?
As a result of COVID-19, it has been a worrying time, but Elevator has helped to put my mind at ease. The team have kept in touch, despite working remotely from home, and have flagged useful information such as available grants, the application process and how to find my rate valuation number.
Any last words?
To anyone who is considering starting a new business or has a requirement for premises in the future, don’t think twice, get in touch with Elevator and they will be there to assist you every step of the way.
