Today we welcome student, Katie Shaw to the blog. She is in need of assistance from local business owners, and she would really appreciate your time...over to you, Katie!
My name is Katie Shaw and I am a fourth-year Management student at Robert Gordon University. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be undertaking academic research as part of my dissertation study and I’m currently seeking participants to get involved.
What’s my topic all about?
My dissertation research aims to explore views on current UK maternity legislation and the influence it can have on small firms.
In this context, influences could range from any social/cultural effects in the business to implications on business processes and finances.
These insights will hopefully help in developing a better understanding of how maternity leave can affect the human resource practices and operations of small firms.
Who am I looking for?
I’m looking specifically for small business owners to participate in my research. Businesses partaking should have less than 50 employees and would preferably have some female members of staff.
I would ideally be looking to interview business owners with experience of maternity in their organisation, however I recongise this can be a rare occurrence for many small businesses. Due to this, it would also be possible to interview small business owners who have not experienced maternity in their business, taking a hypothetical approach to the implications it could potentially have to the business.
What would I need from you?
I would simply require some time out of your busy schedule for an interview. Don’t be worried if you are unsure on the current maternity law or have no experience in the area, as I would be more than happy to brief the main points to you before the interview begins.
Interviews will be taking place over the next few weeks so please get in touch as soon as possible if you feel you can help.
