Professor Sir Jonathan Van-Tam, the UK's former Deputy Chief Medical Officer, shared his leadership lessons from the covid pandemic to a captive audience at Transform Business Festival in Perth this morning [THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2024].
Answering an audience question on his most valuable takeaway from his time in the high-profile role, Professor Van-Tam said: “I learned that good managers do things right, but good leaders do the right thing.
The event, delivered by entrepreneurial support organisation Elevator and Business Gateway Tayside in collaboration with Perth & Kinross Council, aims to connect local business owners, start-ups and support partners to inspire and share knowledge.
Attendees also heard from local entrepreneurs Jamie Grant and Michelle Maddox about their journeys to success with respective local businesses Glen Lyon Coffee Roasters and Clootie McToot.
The free event also included workshops on a range of topics including marketing, AI, and Net Zero, alongside fireside chats, and an Ecosystem Village where attendees could access advice from support organisations.
The popular event is now in its second year and was attended by over 250 people.
Elevator CEO Professor Gary McEwan commented: “We’ve had a fantastic day in Perth welcoming the region’s entrepreneurs, business owners and support organisations.
“A focus of many of the day’s activities was the importance of leadership through challenging times, which I’m sure is something attendees can relate to, no matter their own role. At Elevator we believe passionately that people should always be at the heart of every business. Transform embodies that with its aim to bring people together – a shared entrepreneurial journey is crucial to resilience.”
Transform Business Festival will return to Tayside later in the year. More information will be shared in the coming months.
