Business Gateway client Bill McLeod, owner of flik magazine was delighted to scoop one of the two top prizes at this year’s Think Big competition. The event aims to recognise the businesses who have stood out through brilliant innovation, fantastic planning, and notable achievement.
Bill picked up his £5,000 prize, winning the Business Growth category. Judges, made up from members of the local business community and organisations, were delighted with the work that Bill has put into his venture so far along with his robust expansion plans. The prize for the New Ideas category was scooped by Paul Lawson, who had pioneered wheelchair push-rim covers though his business, Grippoz.
Bill began flik magazine, which has major supermarkets in the Tayside region as distribution outlets, just over a year ago from his home in Kirriemuir. He quickly became the Editor, Sales Manager and Delivery Driver all rolled into one, with the magazine continuing to grow rapidly.
Bill said;
“No matter what stage in life you are at, if you put the hard work in, you can achieve anything.
This prize is quite overwhelming, but it’s fantastic to be recognised and this will definitely help me put my growth plans for flik magazine into action.”
Lead Judge, Charles Goodall of the Federation of Small Businesses was keen to praise the businesses that entered this year’s competition;
“There have been a record number of entries this year and it has been a mammoth task to whittle them down to two winners. It’s so encouraging to see so many fantastic emerging businesses and to help them progress that little bit further in their aims.”
This year’s Think Big Competition was sponsored by Angus Centre for Enterprise, Angus Council, Dundee and Angus Chamber of Commerce, Dundee and Angus College, Federation of Small Businesses, Henderson Loggie Chartered Accountants, Howdens, and Mackays.
