The Grampian Awards for Business Excellence 2014

Entrepreneurs hoping to claim gold in one of the North-east’s most prestigious business awards have been given an extra week to perfect their entries following a 45 per cent rise in registrations.

The closing date for entries was initially set for Friday 7 March, but Enterprise North East Trust (Enterprise), which runs the awards, and headline sponsors RBS – Ahead For Business, have made the decision to extend the closing date to Friday 14 March after 181 businesses registered in one of more of the 10 high-profile award categories.

The prestigious awards, in their 15th year, aim to encourage enterprise by rewarding entrepreneurial companies and individuals that are capable of leading the future prosperity of Grampian.

Gary McEwan, chief executive of Enterprise, said: “The awards support and showcase the success of entrepreneurship in business and it is good to see such a variety of businesses getting involved in the competition. We want people to submit entries that they are proud of, which is why we have made the decision to extend the closing date for entries.

“Now is the time for business leaders and entrepreneurs to shout about their work - there is nothing wrong with telling people you are great at your job and people in the North-east don’t do this enough.  The awards offer the perfect opportunity to celebrate business in the area together.”

Mike Fergusson, RBS director of commercial banking, added: “The number of registrations for the Grampian Awards for Business Excellence has been impressive with an uplift of 45% on 2013 registrations.  This only goes to show how important the awards are in recognising and celebrating business excellence in the North-east.  I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the entrants the very best for the application stage.”

As an additional benefit this year, a special finalists celebration event will be held in April before the last stage of the race to claim gold in the awards ceremony in June.

The black tie awards ceremony will be held at the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel on Thursday 26 June 2014.
