Tayside companies looking to benefit from the public sector including the regeneration of Dundee’s waterfront, can learn the skills needed to win contracts at a one day event in the city.

Business Gateway and the three local authorities will host an open day on Tuesday, 25thFebruary, from 10 a.m to 4 p.m. Businesses can come along at any time during these hours, and gain important information on how and when to bid on future contracts.

The free Meet the Buyer event which is open to any business in the region, aims to equip attendees with the information and knowledge needed to help them win tenders and to discuss the timescales for the various stages of development included in the Waterfront project.

Held in Invercarse Hotel, 371 Perth Road, the event will provide an insight in how to gain work through the public sector and how to find out about contracts through Public Contracts Scotland.

The sessions throughout the day will include: a talk from a local company that has recently won a public sector contract, the chance to talk to experts who will be giving their top tips on how to submit tenders, and throughout the day there will be a chance to meet the buying personnel from organisations including the Scottish Government, NHS Tayside and local universities and colleges.

Attendees can also hear about the potential changes to the Care industry. An overview of social care is due to be implemented across Scotland in April, which could change how care and support services are delivered. This may offer opportunities for new and alternative support services to enter the local market.

Andrew Burnett, Operations Director, Business Gateway said:

“We know the Procurement process can sometimes appear confusing and that many businesses are unsure on how to meet local Buyers from the Public Sector. In Scotland, there is around £9bn of public sector good and services tendered each year, so it’s vital that companies know how to properly bid for work. Dundee is currently undergoing the biggest transformation in its history and we are particularly keen to let local businesses know how they may benefit from this.

“This event has been organised to give business owners in Angus, Dundee and Perth, access to experts from Business Gateway and beyond, and underlines Business Gateway’s commitment to the local business community.”
