What do our judges look for when they’re selecting a winner?
Gary McEwan, Enterprise Chief Executive, explains “it’s a combination of hard work, enthusiasm, a good understanding of the products and the financials and business’s client market. We also look for how a business is planning for its future development and growth.”

Over the next week we’ll remind you who the winners were in the 2011 Grampian Awards.

First up is the winner of the Promising New Business Category.

Promising New Business Winner 2011 - CognityRae Younger of Aberdeen engineering consultancy Cognity set up the firm just over a year ago and in its first year of business it has secured almost £1 million worth of projects. Rae, who has pioneered a number of game changing inventions in the oil and gas industry, has developed something of a niche market by combining specialist mechanical design, advanced analysis, structural design and draughting services. He was praised for taking a leap of faith based on his understanding on the market and contacts, and for the direction he has shown in taking the business forward.

Businesses can only be nominated for this category by their Business Gateway Advisor or their RBS Business Banking Manager.
