Elevator's Founder Fusion Season - Who, What, Where, Why and When?

Jules Lancastle Elevator Accelerator Manager AberdeenToday we hear from Jules Lancastle, Elevator's Accelerator Manager in Aberdeen - looking at the new Founder Fusion Season, specifically what a 'Founder Fusion' is, why Elevator have launched this, and who it can help in the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

‘Founder - /ˈfaʊndə/
‘a person who establishes an institution’

Fusion - /ˈfjuːʒ(ə)n/ noun
‘the process or result of joining two or more things together to form a single entity’

Not everyone is the figurehead of a business. You might not be the next Elon Musk, the Richard Branson or JK Rowling but that doesn’t mean that your skills won’t be the perfect fit for an exciting new start-up business. You could be the missing link between someone’s bright idea and stratospheric business success!

Elevator has accelerated more than 100 business Founders over 6 cohorts of our Accelerator Programme in the last 2 years.

Success factors and barriers to rapid scale have varied. However, the strength and depth of the 'co-founder team' has been established as an undeniable success factor.

Co-founder teams with a validated business model proposition complete Accelerator programmes, but not all solo founders do.

Frustratingly, a solo founder that leaves the programme early, will miss vital learning that unlocks scaling potential to progress into the fast lane.

So why do solo founders with rapid scale ambition, leave Accelerators at an early stage?

Elevator’s insight suggests that once a business model has been validated, the key reason progress then stalls is the limitation of the human capacity to cope with significant traction when the tap is turned on.

A good co-founder team is more effective, simply because they are able to do more, quickly, which is critical for the success of a high growth business.

Elevator’s Founder Fusion Season brings people together who have a mixture of insights, resources, personalities, attributes, and expertise, aiming to link those with big and innovative ideas with those who have the skills who can make them happen.

Founder Fusion is all about introducing people, inspiring quality conversation and igniting a mutual passion for business- fusing teams together who will create sustainable, scalable businesses in Scotland and beyond.

Of course, there are exceptions to every rule – but Elevator’s evidence highlights an issue which can be resolved through stronger founder fusion, pre-acceleration.
Working with ecosystem partners to deliver a season of Founder Fusion will be introducing founders to one another, allowing them to explore and develop relationships and encourage open innovation, collaboration and personal development. Each of the events will take place in Elevator’s world-class Centre for Entrepreneurship in Aberdeen, Bridge of Don – within a vibrant, fast-paced setting where Founders, business supporters and mentors all gather with coffee, music, meeting and work space.
