The TV show seeks to celebrate people whose hard work, ingenuity, ambition and generosity has helped improve local communities across the country.

Last year’s series was a huge success, as STV uncovered the hard work that real life heroes have put in to making a positive impact. This year, the lovely Carol Smillie leads the search once more with ten categories open to nominations, including Community Project, Community Entrepreneur, and Environmental Project.

Nominations will open after tonight’s show, with the closing date midnight on Thursday 8th May.  At this stage, all nominations are welcomed, so even if you’re unsure of what category might fit, submit your nomination anyway. Whether you would like to nominate a worthy friend, adviser, colleague, community groups or even a heroic animal... yes that's right they have a new award for 2014 for the modern day Lassie, don’t hesitate to get your nominations in and help unmask the heroes who have made a difference!

Elizabeth Partyka, deputy director of channels at STV, said:

“Last year we were overwhelmed by the community spirit, time and dedication so many of our well deserving nominees and award winners had shown in their local areas, and we are delighted to be able to celebrate the hard work of these inspiring people again this year.  We want viewers from all over Scotland to nominate their friends, colleagues, neighbours or local groups so we can reward Scotland’s Real Heroes.”

Chris Wilson, RBS’s Managing Director of Branch and Private Banking in Scotland, commented:

“We’re delighted to be supporting RBS – Finding Scotland’s Real Heroes for the second year running. There are so many inspirational people across Scotland who do amazing things for their communities and the series is a fitting way to recognise these people and the contribution they make.”
